Self/ Unit Eval- Unit 2

Self
1. What were the three aspects of the assignments I've submitted that I am most proud of?

My work was much better this time, my posting is getting done on a regular basis, and my Compendiums have table of contents =)

2. What two aspects of my submitted assignments do I believe could have used some improvement?

My photo captions not being all kerfunked, and my choice of pictures perhaps.

3. What do I believe my overall grade should be for this unit?

I'd have to say either a high B or a low A like last time.

4. How could I perform better in the next unit?

Take all my not so good things and fix them.

Unit
1. At what moment during this unit did you feel most engaged with the course?

During the first part. I like the heart! It's probably my favorite organ in the body.

2. At what moment during this unit did you feel most distanced from the course?

During the Nutrition part. It's hard for me to read about a lot of the stuff on obese people, because it seems like they stereotype all obese people as being lazy junk food eaters. But we're not all like that.

3. What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit did you find most affirming and helpful?

The powerpoints were awesome for this unit. They were just like the last unit, but for some reason they helped more this time.

4. What action that anyone (teacher or student) took during this unit did you find most puzzling or confusing?

To be totally honest, nothing. This unit was very simple and not confusing or puzzling at all.

5. What about this unit surprised you the most? (This could be something about your own reactions to the course, something that someone did, or anything else that occurs to you.)

This unit, the nutrition portion, made me curious enough to step on the scale. The last time I was on a scale, I had just gained 30 pounds... very depressing. But I am inching myself closer and closer to the 200 mark, and I am so happy!

Jen,
Great job on this unit. Your compendiums are really well-done…Nice job on the data collecting and analysis…in general your work is excellent—keep it up!

COMPENDIUM MAJOR TOPIC ONE: OXYGEN, MICROBES, IMMUNITY:
This compendium is fantastic—great images all with sources…nice organized table of contents and really great information—keep it up!

COMPENDIUM MAJOR TOPIC TWO: NUTRITION:
Also really well-done compendium like the other.

LAB MAJOR TOPIC ONE: BLOOD PRESSURE
Excellent job on this lab…really good hhypothesis justified, good details on the data and your analysis…incredibly complete!

LAB MAJOR TOPIC TWO: A DAY OF FOOD
Looks great…interesting analysis of good and bad of nutritional calculators—I wonder too how beneficial they are.

LAB PROJECT: EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:
Were you surprised at how small the changes were? I’m not sure they are very significant expect perhaps doing chores compared to your baseline. Do you see any ways you might improve the experimental design? How long did you wait from doing your activity to taking your measurements? I’m almost surprised at how constant all your measures are! Your overall design, laying out hypothesis, getting data, and analyzing it is great.

ETHICAL ISSUE ESSAY: WHAT IS FOOD:
Really interesting essay combining some personal experience—focus on that drop in nutritents—what is that all about—is it soil depletion? New breeds that are bred for something other than nutritents? Hmmmm…

I couldn’t tell, in the end, where you wanted to wind up (which is fine, by the way). Should we not rely now on these low-nutrient fruits and vegetables…I agree we should also recognize that we will inevitably be eating so-called ‘junk food” and that this also can have its nutritional qualities.
